Hey there,
Does the recent election have you hurting for our country as much as I am?
I mean, I knew that America still had a long way to go in order to wipe out all of the social prejudices, injustices and insular thinking which pervade a thankful minority of its citizens.
But when I saw political supporters chanting racial slurs, persecuting (and even attacking) anyone who didn't look or sound "American" and perpetuating anti-Islamic paranoia, I was genuinely petrified!
Being a Gen-Xer, I was part of that first privileged set of youngsters to grow up with latent, primarily invisible racism and rapidly advancing technology.
I only thought about race on MLK day, during the 80's crack dilemma of the "projects", the 1992 LA riots or on the maybe 3 times a year that a story broke out about police brutality inflicted on Afro-American youths.
Needless to say, the fallout from the recent election totally shocked me, even in the wake of #BlackLivesMatter.
Until then, I had considered racism in America to be somewhat manageable. It just tore my heart out to see the fear and anxiety in the eyes of immigrant and Muslim people, especially the children.
They (or their parents) had come here to escape unbearable persecution in their homelands, only to land right back in the thick of it here in the good old USA. Not to forget the shameful chants of "White Power!" and "Go back to Africa!" heard in our neighborhoods and schools.
This is not the America I've come up knowing; it's not the America I boast about, the America I defend and love, and it's definitely not the America with which I identify.
Upon realizing this fact, I decided to do something about the situation.
I decided not to let the poisonous hatred and malice of a few unenlightened souls destroy the social fabric of my America. I was determined to retaliate against this steady erosion of the "United" in USA.
We've already had a civil war which nearly tore the entire country apart, almost making it ripe for Europe's picking all over again. No sane, right-thinking American wants to go back there.
So what do we do?
We fight the hate with love and unity. We use whatever influence we may have in our own communities to bring people together - celebrating Americana instead of focusing on political, religious, ethnic or cultural differences.
We must undertake our own campaign, one that will #HealAmerica.
To this end, Donna's Glorious Giveaways is promoting a set of products geared towards spreading a message of social healing and reconciliation.
As a holiday gift, all of the items will be provided at cost so as to maximize the campaign's exposure (click here to browse product selection).
Better still, until 12/31/20, follow me on any of my channels and I'll allow you to choose 1 FREE item from a special group of products.
Please show your support for this worthy and much-needed cause, regardless of your political affiliation.
Donna
N.B. DGG, in selecting the color for the America in its "Heal America" hashtag, in no way intends to suggest that America identifies primarily with a given political party. Rather, the two colors were selected alphabetically (i.e. blue before red).
